Default Random Arenas: Suggestion Box

This thread is open to suggestions specifically oriented towards improving Random Arenas. In order to improve RA, we first need to identify what's wrong, and then provide what we think might be a solution to fixing this err.

I'll start off by identifying what I believe is one of the leading causes of rage-quitting during an RA matchup:

Monks - "No monk, no glory!" is a common believe among many of the top competitors in RA, and though some believe they're not absolutely needed, a monk can in most cases mean the difference between 25 wins instead of just 5. Also, two monk teams usually end up in a stalemate, or a "lame" win. This can cause players to become disheartened or disinterested, and irritated, leading to prematurely leaving the match.

Suggestion - Set up an algorithm that allots one, and ONLY one, monk per team constructed. This means that every single team would have a perfectly fair chance at a balanced match. This in turn reduces two-monk stalemate/stalling matches and both teams would have an equal opportunity at winning the match by default (ultimately, it's all subject to the player's skillset and execution, though).

Your suggestions should follow the same format as the above. Keep it flame-free to avoid having this thread closed. Have at it!

Edit: Just realized this thread should probably go in the Sardelac Sanctum section. If a moderator would kindly move this thread there, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

This thread should not be moved to Sanitarium but locked for good.

If you did a simple search you'd notice that people suggested this same thing at least 100x by now, and each time it was rejected with a good reason.

I would suggest one profession per team is constructed.

More Arena's also, if you seen all of them you seen all of them.

After 5 wins you are allowed an extra 1 loss without the team breaking up.

Have some Arena's a 4vs4vs4 match or even 4vs4vs4vs4. after 5 wins.

Have a Castle Assault style Arena, where players try to take down each others Castle. Taking certain NPC's to either attack or defend.

Have a 2 teams vs. 2 teams Arena, the winning double team then must fight each other to continue. after 5 wins.

Have a replacement NPC, if a player DC's or leaves the team has an ally(s) with a build under that profession.

Have an Arena that has switches to release NPC monsters to attack either team.

Have an Arena that 2 teams must take down 6 NPC Zaishen foes, if the team beats the NPC's they can fight their former allies or if 1 team is beaten by the Zaishen.

Do I go on?

No, this is a belief among the lower rank competitors. The higher up players like having a monk because it makes things easier, but they don't need one to win because they have abilities beyond asking "heal plz".
The weaker players are the ones that load, see no monk, and leave, thus causing their team to have to resign or fight an uphill battle that will 99% of the time end in a loss.

Still not true either.

An experienced player can assess the situation and if a fight is on, they can attempt to win the match despite being against a monk.
You then have to realise whether it's worth the bother, due to your own team, and can trust that someone will leave, or can get at least 5 wins.
So to even attempt a fight that requires some pwnage, you're gambling on whether your team is worth it, or winning the round is worth it. In the end, the gaining titles is the prize everyone wants. At least those who are serious think of it as such.

However I don't appreciate the fact that any decent monk will always try to group up with others and sync. The ball is in their court for now and should be nice to others and be honest. If they are syncing, say so. Then maybe they all can resign knowing that the team will be broken up after the win anyways. Yet again, it boils down to the title. And most people will play a monk because there is a higher chance of more wins. That being said, they will also be looking for the perfect team to reach maximum wins, resulting in them leaving unbalanced teams.

Keep the "random" element in Random Arena's.

@Zodiac: while not necessarily bad idea's, I believe Random Arena's isn't the place to implement them.

Not to throw down your submission but what if a team had a smiting monk as well? a normal healing/prot monk and a smiter monk on the same team is not the same. Ultimately, no one would ever use (as if they already do lol) smiting monks in RA for fear of not getting a regular monk. Sorry but i disagree with you =/

Over the past couple weeks that I've been inside RA, I can tell you that there are some fairly beastly elementalist, ritualist, and dervish healer builds, as well as a few lame smite monk builds. An algorithm to force one monk per team can't guarantee you to get one healer.

Suggesting RA to have X limit on Y professions/builds/skills per team and to use some kind of filter to do so is not a new request. Please run a search for past threads on this subject.

Closed.
